DNA

DNA

This artwork was placed on the Path of Life. A path that starts from the limits of the old city of Xanthi and follows the Kosynthos River.

Several works of art by artists related to the city have been placed on this path. There one can also find the Cave of Eros.

According to legend, Xanthippe, the daughter of a tobacco merchant, and Xanthos, a poor but honest young man, in love as they were, met here in secret because their love affair was forbidden. This is where death found them since (like other Romeo and Juliet) they decided to commit suicide because the monks of the nearby monastery refused to marry them.

My work, DNA, was also placed in this cave. In this sculpture, the two young people meet again in the Cave of Eros, and from its shadows emerges this simultaneous existence of the couple for the city itself. Two bodies entwine, their faces approach and become one body.

However, not even through art did this loving couple manage to be fictionalized in the Cave of Eros, as the work was destroyed after a rock fall.
