The Philosophers’ Park
The Philosophers’ Park is a shadow sculpture dedicated to the seven philosophers of the “School of Abdera” Democritus, Protagoras, Leucippus, Bion, Anaxarchus, Hecataeus, Ascanius.
In the shadow image, one can distinguish Democritus (the only one of the seven whose form we know) and six other figures that correspond to each of the above philosophers.
Abdera is the place that hosted these great people or rather their home. That is why the entire shadow image has the form of a house with a more pronounced roof element. The central element of the work, apart from Democritus, is the museum building, which currently houses part of the material and spiritual heritage that Ancient Abdera left us.
Another connection to the present is the figure of one of the philosophers, who is more reminiscent of a modern man.
“Λόγος ἔργου σκιή”
“Word is the shadow of works”, a quote by Democritus according to Laertius.
