Unit “Mind Caves” / Kind of Art: Shadow Art / Year: 2017 / Materials: Plastic, Alumium, wire

The title and the theme of the sculptures refer, mainly, to the allegory of Plato’s Cave.

The sensate and the imaginary worlds of the sculptures of the unit work together to lead us to thoughts that are far from everyday life. This is an attempt to capture the questions created by the allegory of the cave. The feeling of freedom, internal conflicts, sensations, ideas, the world given to each of us are some of the concepts recorded between the shadows and the enigmatic sculptures.

Plastic (which arises as waste in the production process of a factory) and aluminum were used to construct the artworks. The unit consists of three sculptures.

“Traveling to Light”, “Flames” and “Weightless Scales”.

“Weightless Scales” is a complex work consisting of two rotating and one fixed sculpture. This combination hides a scenario that unfolds during the rotation. This artwork could be characterized as a different kind of shadow theater, as the shadows are produced by rotating (rather than moving) sculptures.

The unit presented on September 15th, 2017 at the Helenic Centre of London (United Kingdom).
