Listen the analysis of the artwork
This sculpture was commissioned in March 2020 by the Nickelodeon channel. It was made entirely from trash as the company’s goal was to launch this shade on April 22, 2020, which was the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. The project was presented on the channel’s social media.
So to tie it in, with protecting the planet I put the earth on Bob’s finger. The land is the only point of the shadow with color to emphasize the environmental message. I chose to make the sculpture out of trash that can be found at the bottom of the sea, where SpongeBob lives. To make the light-colored Bob, I had to have a dark background, which I made look like a mountain of garbage in the sea, so SpongeBob looks in front of him and tells us to “Watch the Earth.”
